The place

On a quiet bend of road at Varkala with the sea visible from the veranda. Terracotta floors, generous rooms, and furniture the owner has carried home from a lot of places — Tuscan armoires, Byzantine chandeliers, Burmese lacquer — which in most hands would be a mess and here is not. Four rooms, a pool and a fragrant garden.
