The place
You cross a wooden bridge to get in, which sets the tone. Elephant-grass thatch, private verandas with divans on them, and the whole thing set inside a working spice garden on the edge of the Periyar reserve. Simple rather than luxurious, and the better for it. There is an Ayurvedic centre and a pool among the trees.
