The blue city of Jodhpur

Rajasthan & Uttar Pradesh · 15 days

Rajasthan, drawn by hand

A fortnight with a sketchbook, and someone to teach you.

The journey

The classic route — Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur — but travelled at drawing speed, which is much slower than looking speed. Drawing sessions every day, taught, for people at any level including none. You come home with the book.

Route

  1. Delhi
  2. Agra
  3. Bharatpur
  4. Fatehpur Sikri
  5. Jaipur
  6. Jaisalmer
  7. Jodhpur

What stays with you

  • 01Drawing the Taj Mahal rather than photographing it
  • 02The bird sanctuary at Bharatpur, and Fatehpur Sikri
  • 03Amber, and the palaces of Jaipur
  • 04Three days in Jaisalmer, which is what it takes
  • 05Mehrangarh above Jodhpur
  • 06A taught drawing session most days

Day by day

A shape rather than a timetable. Days move, and most people move one or two of them.

1 – 2

Fly to Delhi. Guided visits, and the first drawing.

3

On to Agra. The Taj Mahal in the afternoon, and time to draw it.

4

Fatehpur Sikri on the way to Bharatpur, then the bird sanctuary.

5 – 6

To Jaipur. The palaces, and drawing between them.

7

Amber in the morning; the night train west.

8 – 10

Jaisalmer. Three days, most of them with a pencil.

11 – 12

Jodhpur, the fort, and the blue city below it.

13 – 15

Fly to Delhi, a last day, and home.
