Ancient rock carvings in Ladakh

Ladakh, an archaeology

A dig, and the country around it.

The journey

Ladakh sits north of the Himalaya, beyond the high passes, on what was once a junction of the Silk Road. This journey follows the excavations that have been running there since 2013 — the sites themselves, the questions they raise, and the people asking them. It takes in a good deal of historical and religious Ladakh that organised tourism does not reach.
