Rock-cut temple architecture at Ellora

Maharashtra & Karnataka · About three weeks

The rock temples of the Deccan

Ajanta, Ellora, Elephanta — and the kingdoms that followed them.

The journey

Sanctuaries cut into the hard basalt of the Deccan, at Ajanta, Ellora and Elephanta, and then south to the Chalukya capitals and Vijayanagara — the last of the great Hindu kingdoms. Paced to allow thinking time, with the old bazaars of Goa on the way.
